However, due to differences in operating conditions and standard conditions, the system desalination rate differs from the standard desalination rate. Furthermore, since reverse osmosis systems typically involve multiple membrane elements connected in series, and the actual operating conditions of each membrane element vary, the system desalination rate also differs from the actual desalination rate of the membrane element. Only for systems with only one membrane element does the system desalination rate equal the actual desalination rate of the membrane element.
