Product Details
The hollow fiber UF membrane module adopts an inside-out filtration structure that allows feed water to flow through the lumen of the hollow fibers while suspended solids, bacteria, colloids, and organic contaminants are retained by the membrane barrier.
Designed for low-pressure ultrafiltration processes, the module supports both cross-flow and dead-end filtration modes with recommended operating pressure ≤0.2 MPa. The hydrophilic membrane surface helps reduce contaminant adhesion and improves cleaning efficiency during hydraulic backwash and chemical cleaning procedures.
Compared with conventional hydrophobic membrane materials, the PAN/PVC membrane structure offers better resistance to organic fouling in surface water applications with fluctuating turbidity and natural organic matter content. Stable permeate turbidity and SDI control help reduce fouling risks in downstream RO systems and improve overall system reliability.

Product Advantages
Wide application coverage – Whether used in municipal drinking water treatment, industrial wastewater reuse, or pre-RO protection, this UF membrane delivers reliable turbidity removal and pathogen retention. Compared to tubular membrane systems, it offers higher packing density and lower energy consumption for large-scale operations.
Flexible process integration – Ideal for MBR retrofits, surface water purification, and tertiary filtration. While flat sheet membrane excels in immersed bioreactors, PAN hollow fiber membrane module provides easier backwashability and greater mechanical strength for pressurized or submerged configurations across diverse field installations.

Surface Water Pretreatment Challenges
Surface water quality can vary significantly due to seasonal turbidity changes, algae growth, rainfall conditions, and organic contamination. Without stable pretreatment, these contaminants can increase SDI levels and accelerate fouling in downstream reverse osmosis systems.
Hydrophilic hollow fiber UF membranes are widely used as a pretreatment barrier because they provide effective suspended solids removal while helping maintain stable filtration performance under changing feed water conditions.
For systems with high organic loading or seasonal algae contamination, periodic backwashing and chemical enhanced backwash (CEB) are recommended to maintain stable membrane flux and permeate quality.

Our Advantages
As a ultrafiltration membrane manufacturer, technical support is provided from model selection to system operation. Guidance includes membrane sizing, RO pretreatment configuration, and operating parameter optimization based on actual water conditions.
After installation, support covers commissioning, troubleshooting, and cleaning procedures using compatible chemicals. Continuous service helps maintain stable flux, reduce fouling, and ensure long-term operation of UF membrane systems.

FAQ
1. Why are hydrophilic UF membranes commonly used for RO pretreatment?
Hydrophilic membrane surfaces help reduce organic fouling and stabilize SDI before reverse osmosis systems, helping protect downstream RO membranes from particulate and colloidal contamination.
2. How does the hydrophilic membrane surface improve anti-fouling performance?
Hydrophilic membrane surfaces reduce the tendency of organic contaminants and colloidal particles to adhere strongly to the membrane surface, improving contaminant removal during backwashing and cleaning cycles.
3. What cleaning chemicals are compatible with the membrane?
The membrane is compatible with common cleaning chemicals including sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), citric acid, and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) within the recommended pH range of 2–10.
4. What is the typical service life of the UF membrane module?
Typical membrane service life ranges from 3–5 years depending on feed water quality, operating conditions, pretreatment effectiveness, and cleaning frequency.
5. Can the membrane handle seasonal algae contamination?
Yes. The membrane module is commonly used in surface water systems with seasonal algae fluctuations. Appropriate backwash frequency and periodic chemical cleaning are recommended to maintain stable long-term operation.
